NEWS RELEASE Thermoflow’s GT PRO Design Program Approaches 1,000-User MilestoneSUDBURY, MA (June 1, 1998) – GT PRO, the flagship in Thermoflow, Inc.’s fleet of PC-based software products for the design and simulation of thermal power plants, is approaching a major milestone: 1,000 users worldwide. Dr. Maher Elmasri, president of Thermoflow, expects that the 1,000th GT PRO application will be reached by mid-summer. “Today GT PRO is operating at 500 sites in 46 countries, and we estimate it is being used about 300,000 times a year,” he said. “It’s reasonable to assume that virtually any gas turbine combined-cycle plant built anywhere in the world in this decade has been modeled by GT PRO, whether by the owner, developer, financier, consultant, engineer, equipment manufacturer, constructor or operator.” Dr. Elmasri began writing the GT PRO program in 1987, and it was offered as a commercial product the following year. GT PRO is an intelligent, flexible, high-speed program designed for ease-of-use. In less than 30 minutes, a user can generate accurate and detailed heat balances, cycle-flow schematics, equipment designs and economic analyses that would take days or even weeks if done manually or by cumbersome computer tools. The ease and speed of evaluating different options allows the user to rapidly sort through a broad range of possibilities and optimize the plant design. Gas turbines can be selected from a data base containing manufacturers’ specifications for more than 150 models, and can be combined with a wide variety of steam systems. GT PRO also includes a financial analysis module which facilitates the analysis of project economics and their interactions with technical design choices. In addition to GT PRO, Thermoflow’s family of application-specific products also includes GT MASTER for gas turbine-based plants, and STEAM PRO and STEAM MASTER for steam power plants. Along with application-specific products, Thermoflow also offers THERMOFLEX, a fully flexible design system. Besides standard software products, Thermoflow provides custom programs for on-line or off-line simulation, monitoring and optimization of power and cogeneration plants, and also provides consulting services. Thermoflow is based in Sudbury, MA with a sister company, Thermoflow Ltd., serving European clients from Gloucester, England. |
