Design of Gas Turbine Combined Cycle and Cogeneration Systems Seminar

The seminar is unrelated to Thermoflow's software products.  It is a professional development course reviewing the theory and practice of gas turbines and combined cycle design, and containing a significant amount of material that has been developed specifically for this course and which has not been published elsewhere.

The seminar has been presented over forty times since 1990, in many countries, both in sessions open to the general public and in-house for client companies.  It has been attended by about 1,500 engineers from all over the world.

Objective

To provide fundamental insight and practical guidelines toward selecting a plant that maximizes economic return from gas turbine cogeneration and combined cycle projects.

Scope

Concise review of the theoretical background, design practice, and operational characteristics of the major system components:  Gas turbine, heat recovery boiler and steam turbine.

Discussion of the characteristics of various types of cogeneration and combined cycle arrangements, including guidelines for selecting those most suitable for a given application.

Description of system heat balance optimization tradeoffs with due consideration for off-design and part-load behavior.

Illustration, through practical examples, of the interaction between technical choices and economic factors.

Who Should Attend

Engineers involved in the design or development of cogeneration and combined cycle equipment and projects.

The content of this popular seminar is continually revised to include the latest developments in the field.

Instructor

Dr. Maher Elmasri is founder and president of Thermoflow.  Previously he served as Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, where he conducted research and taught courses on Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Gas Turbines, Fluid Mechanics and Power and Propulsion. A Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he has authored many publications and consulted for a number of organizations, nationally and internationally.

Since 1987, Dr Elmasri has focused on developing Thermoflow's software products for designing thermal systems. About 1,500 copies of the GT PRO program he initially wrote are in use worldwide, and he continues to supervise the development of Thermoflow's broad line of power plant design and simulation tools.
